BLACK ADAM
Even the thing that is supposed to make the picture stand out - the fact that the title character isn't necessarily a good guy - falls utterly flat.
After the turmoil surrounding the DC brand in recent months the company are in desperate need to reinstate confidence in their overall superhero plan. If they are putting all their faith in Black Adam, there might be very rocky roads ahead however.
The picture has long been a passion project for star Dwayne Johnson, but on the evidence of the finished product it's impossible to see the appeal. Black Adam is interchangeable with just about every other superhero movie out there.
Even the thing that is supposed to make the picture stand out - the fact that the title character isn't necessarily a good guy through and through - falls utterly flat. Another annoyance is the confusing introduction of numerous other DC characters who only draw attention away from the main themes of the movie.
With another boring villain in the fold, an incessantly thumping score and an overload of tedious CGI battles, Black Adam thus is not the creative relaunch DC was hoping for.
