PARASITE
You come for the twists but you stay for the exquisitely drawn characters and Bong Joon-ho’s directing masterclass in a movie for the ages.
For the past ten to fifteen years South-Korea has produced plenty of exquisite films, but the buzz surrounding Palme d'Or winner Parasite has dwarfed them all.
Rightfully so: director Bong Joon-ho crafts a tale of clashing classes unlike one seen in recent memory, filled with suspenseful twists and turns, offbeat humour and striking characters.
The script could have maybe used another pass or two, but even the minor parts of Parasite that don't quite work, profit vastly from Bong Joon Ho's extraordinary visual flair and knack for storytelling.
In short: this darkly entertaining drama is one of the year's (and the decade’s) best films.
