ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

Despite the introduction of new big baddie Kang the Conqueror much of the events in the film have frustratingly little impact on the overall Marvel narrative.

The Ant-Man films used to be the fun disposable palate cleanser in between the huge interconnected Marvel movies. That all changes with Quantumania.

Well, not so much the disposability because despite the introduction of new big baddie Kang the Conqueror much of the events in the film have frustratingly little impact on the overall Marvel narrative. The onslaught of special effects and incessant world-building does suck the fun out of the picture though.

Unlike the previous entries Quantumania hardly ever stops to spend time on character development, instead opting to go from one interchangeable action scene to the next. The arena of the film, the quantum realm, also doesn’t convince as the makers seem to make up the rules that govern the strange world as they go along.

Even the one thing that could have elevated the picture, Jonathan Majors’ Kang, falls flat as the villain isn’t nearly as frightening as he is being billed. If you’re looking for an entertaining time at the multiplex, better not look towards Quantumania then.
